Oprah Winfrey was named the #1 favorite TV personality by the Harris Poll.
She has consistently been in the top five since 1993. and has been No. 1 for five years (2002-2006). She dropped to No. 2 in 2007 and No. 4 in 2008.
The big surprise this year is that Glenn Beck, was named #2.
I repeat ...
Glenn Beck was named #2.
He's never been on the list in the past. That's a heck of a jump.
The rest of the list, in descending order:
Jay Leno
Ellen DeGeneres
Hugh Laurie
Jon Stewart
Charlie Sheen
Mark Harmon
David Letterman
Bill O'Reilly
Congratulations Glenn Beck!

I much prefer Glenn Beck to O... He should have gotten the number one slot!
I agree. Not only is he funny, he educates us too. He makes me do a lot of research.
He seems to be becoming a powerful figure. Congratulations to Glenn and I can only wonder what is next for him.
As more Americans tune in to Beck, we'll see more informed citizens. That's really good news.
Bob- I agree, Beck is funny and gets his point across. He is the best speaker I have ever seen.
Interesting to see that Beck beat out O'Riley...
Helping you help others live their American dream...
Bob - It goes to show you how powerful Fox is - that is why the liberals including Obama hate Fox News with a passion -
Beck's book is great too - "Argueing With Idiots" with such an original presentation of the material.
Bob.. Personally I think Mark Harmon should be number one. I think he would even make a good President.. better than the one we have now.
I agree ~ Beck should have been 1st!!!!
I do not watch Beck on TV but I like his radio show. Oprah bugs the crap out of me so I have a hard time understanding why she would be number one.
Charles, I noticed that Beck changes with the issues. He's steadfast, but tries to keep up with what's happening in this country and keeps us informed on hanging on to America as we know it.
Some Changes aren't always good.
Jon, I believe you are right on that issue. Americans are learning through his program. They are learning to question and seek truth. Nothing wrong with that.
Larry, I've been listening to him since just after 9-11. His show just keeps growing and growing.
Michael, I think the reason is that Beck is a clown. He tells us that all the time. Who doesn't like a clown? But, he is a clown with an important message that "most" Americans want to hear about.
Nick, Fox is the most trusted news station out there. Fair and Balanced.
Sue, I've read two of his books. Argueing is on my shopping list.
Valerie, Mark Harmon from NCIS. Interesting choice.
Sandie, He would be if I made the list.
Kevin, Oprah appeals to a different audience and she has a lingering effect of good things she has done in the past. She's a great lady and is deserving of the honor.
BTW folks, I had to look up Hugh Laurie. Had no clue who he was.
Should I be embarrassed?
Glenns only agenda is keeping the US strong , free and safe, except for the kool-aid drinkers Americans see that.
Congratulations this post is now featured in the Silent Majority Group of Active Rain.
More power to Glenn Beck. He'll probably beat out the Oprah next time around.
I agree... congratulations to Glenn! Sure, he's a clown. But he both entertains and challenges his audience to not just sit back and BE entertained, but become educated and question "the powers that be."
Regarding O - certainly, she has worked hard to earn her place on the list. And of course she's contributed a lot to a lot of causes. But how much does it detract from her charitable giving when she's practically ALWAYS front and center in the reporting of such giving? (Can enyone point to any examples of her giving WITHOUT promoting herself?) I mean, it seems as if the REAL point of her "generosity" is to gain more publicity for herself... not to sacrificially give, nor to put others in the limelight. A Billionaire giving away $100k and bragging about being "generous" is like a family with $100+k in net worth giving away $10 and bragging about their generosity.
To the person or organization receiving the gift, I'm sure it's a reasonably big deal. But that's NOT true generosity... especially when she gets significant self-promotional benefit from her gifts and the planned exposure.
I love Glen Beck. No fluff just the real stuff.
I stopped watching Oprah when I got a life. lol. Love Beck.
I like anyone in the news that's not afraid to tell it like it is. Some news stations say like their bosses want them to.
David Letterman? He is a SLEEZE! I like Hugh Laurie and I've NEVER seen Jon Stewart!!
This made me smile. Thanks Bob!
JP
A few years ago I had a friend who had gotten very Ill and he wound up IMO addicted to pain meds. One day I asked him if he was going to spend the rest of his life sitting on the couch watching Oprah. Now he's working about 70 hours a week.
Hugh, I don't see any agenda from Glenn, besided "wake up America".
Nick, Thank you for the feature.
Yolanda, if his popularity continues, he probably will.
David, I hadn't noticed that about O, but now that you mention it.
Oh Bonnie, Glenn has lots of fluff. He's a big fluff ball.
winkin'
Cheri, I never really watched Oprah. I did like her in The Color Purple, though.
Dean, As long as it's the truth. I just want the truth.
Wallace, I agree. Letterman is worse than sleaze. Who would trust him with their child? Not I.
JP, I'm always happy when I make people smile. Life is good.
Hugh, Good for you. You may just have saved his life. God Bless.
