Texas Is At It Again! UPDATE!

I thought this blog would be worthy of a re-blog for many good reasons.  While I don't exactly agree with the blog (I lived in Texas for 5 years and have a strong bond with Texas and Texans), I thought it should be put out there some more.

The authors  account has been disabled.  You may not be able to go to the original blog.

Via Terry Haugen STAGE it RIGHT! 321-956-2495 (Stage it Right!):

The Texas school baord which is comprised of a 15 member board, incuding 10 republicans, has decided to included MORE references to christianity, and fewer mentions of civil rights leaders like Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.

On a 7-6 vote, the board added "causes and key organizations and individuals, " including Phyllis Schafly, the contract ON America, the ever present and always wingnut Heritage Foundation, the NRA, and the Moral Majority, to the students curriculum.

They also voted against requiring teachers to cover Ted Kennedy, Supreme Court Justice Sotomaor, leading Hispanic civil rights groupls LULAC and MALDF.  Fortunately Thurgood Marshall, the country's first Afriacan-American Supreme Court justice, will be taught.  Whew!  Thats a relief!

In addition, Sen. Joseph McCarthy will of course be reverred, because of his communist witch hunts in the 50's.

Oh and here is the best one, students will be required in U.S. History classes to distinguish between legal and illegal immigration. (considering, a good number of students attending schools in TX were born of illegally immigrated parents, this should be an outstanding history lesson.)

Way to go Texas!  If you can't rewrite history, well then just present the issues you want to present to your students.  No wonder people from Texas sound so ill-informed!

I myself am stunned - maybe not surprised - but definitely floored at what Texas has chosen to include and exclude from their public school teaching. I think it's appalling.  Time to watch Idiocracy again - it's starting to seem like a documentary rather than a farce.

Hey Elizabeth. Thanks for electing Scott Brown for us. I personally really appreciate that. As for this - well when someone chooses to insult all the people of an entire State I tend not to pay them much attention - especially when a piece about education contains so many mistakes! :)

If you do not like public schools, then teach your kids via home school.

If you do not like the curriculum of a certain state, then vote &  decide to live somewhere else.

The same folks that are against what Texas is teaching our children spend more time on blogs instead of with their own kids.

I am one proud Texan who believes in our children.  I also believe a child should have a chance to BE a child.

I don't want some nut teaching my 2nd grader about cross dressers.  Let them be kids for goodness sake.

I am very proud of what Texas has done in the schools.  If you do not like it, do not come here!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE living in Texas!!  When we lived in Colorado I had our children in private Christian school but after moving here put them in public school and was VERY happy with the education they received.  Our youngest graduated in 2004 but I'm glad to see that the schools are still keeping their conservative views.

Like I said before Bob, the states and local school boards should control what goes on in the schools.

Bob - the authors account has not been disabled. I am assuming the the author had deleted the original blog. Just another act of cowardice.

Sorry Bob, I couldn't resist. I can only take being picked on so long. My patience has run out.

I have no idea where terry obtained this "news", so my first instinct is to doubt its integrity.  There are no quotes in the blog, so readers are EXPECTED to blindly believe terry's comprehension of what happened??  YEAH RIIIIGHT!  I've read too many posts by this person to give her credit for her comprehension skills.

On the subject of what is taught in schools.  That has been a mess for years now!  Teaching Kindergartners "why Daddy sleeps with Larry", cross-dressing advice, lessons on FISTING (friend of obama's), how to use condoms, etc.

Elizabeth, I guess you just don't get it.  Texas does what Texans want.  Not what MA thinks Texas should do.My advice, stay out of Texas.

Melissa, As a Texan, I'm sure you have a good grasp on the truth of this story.

Marchel, I too loved living in Texas when I was there.  Conservatism is alive and thriving in Texas.  Keep  up the good work.

Larry, That's how I feel too.  Each state controls their system, and each school district makes the rules based on their voters wants.

Mike, for some reason, the links to blogs still work, but her account has surely been disabled.

Wallace,  There was a time the spellcheck didn't work too well, but I have seen several comments by Terry and her associates correcting errors in spelling and grammar of otheres.  Guess the spellcheck works both ways.  Unless.......

Nick, Texas is a very patriotic state, and those that mess with it, pay a price.

Sen. Joseph McCarthy will of course be reverred, because of his communist witch hunts in the 50's....

Funnny things is now - we don't have to have a communist witch hunt - we all know who the commies are - they are out of the closet and in the highest office of the land!
